StarKist Co. Does Not Package Tuna in Ghana

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration has informed StarKist Co. that canned tuna wrongly labeled as StarKist product from Ghana has entered the U.S. market.  StarKist Co.  did not package, manufacture or process this canned tuna product, nor does StarKist Co. package tuna in Ghana; the majority of our tuna is produced in either American Samoa or Ecuador, with a small amount also produced in Thailand.

The photographs below, provided by the FDA, are examples of the mislabeled products.  Please note that the country of origin statement clearly declares Ghana and that the StarKist logo used here differs significantly from all legitimate StarKist labels on products currently for sale in the United States.

StarKist Co. has received no consumer or retailer complaints regarding this product and there is no evidence that this product is on store shelves.  We encourage consumers and retailers to contact StarKist Consumer Affairs at 1-800-252-1587 to report such an occurrence or with any questions or concerns.  As a leading producer, distributor and marketer of shelf-stable seafood products in the United States, StarKist Co. is committed to providing high-quality, nutritious products to consumers.  In addition, StarKist Co. is a member in good standing of the Better Seafood Board, which was formed in 2007 to stamp out economic fraud in the seafood industry.  You can learn more about the Better Seafood Board by visiting the following website:  http://www.aboutseafood.com/about/about-nfi/better-seafood-board
